The words, and what they actually mean
Testing and security vocabulary is full of terms that sound precise and are used loosely. Each entry here defines one without circularity, says why it matters commercially, and names the misunderstanding it usually travels with.
Why this exists
A surprising number of disagreements in software delivery are vocabulary disputes that nobody has noticed are vocabulary disputes. Two people using “regression testing” to mean different things will argue about scope for an hour without ever discovering that they agree about the work.
So these definitions are written to be usable in an argument. Each one says what the term includes, what it excludes, and where the common looser usage will get someone into trouble. Where a term has a legal meaning as well as a technical one, the two are separated rather than blended.
